Newly elected Standing Committee members of the Political Bureau of the 16th Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee meet with Chinese and overseas reporters covering the 16th CPC National Congress in the Great Hall of the People Friday morning.

Ji Bingxuan, spokesman for the 16th National Congress of CPC, introduces Hu Jintao, newly elected general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, to Chinese and overseas journalists.

Hu Jintao says that the just-concluded 16th CPC National Congress was a "great success."

"This is a united, triumphant and highly progressive meeting, as well as a meeting which has carried on the past and opened a new chapter for the future," says Hu.

Hu Jintao also introduces his colleagues in the newly elected Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the 16th CPC Central Committee. They are Wu Bangguo, Wen Jiabao, Jia Qinglin, Zeng Qinghong, Huang Ju, Wu Guanzheng, Li Changchun and Luo Gan.

Hu also expresses his thanks to all comrades of the Party for their trust on behalf of all members of the newly-elected central leadership.

Hu Jintao vows that the new CPC central leadership would live up to the trust of Party members and the expectations of people across the country, and work hard for the country's socialist modernization.

"We will live up to the great trust of the entire Party and the expectations of people across the country, hold high the great banner of Deng Xiaoping Theory, fully implement the important thought of Three Represents, and earnestly fulfill various tasks put forth by the 16th Party Congress," he says.

"We will closely unite with and depend on the entire Party and people of all ethnic groups across China, carry on the past and keep pace with the times, and work hard for building a well-off society in an all-round way, accelerating socialist modernization and striving to usher in a brand new situation for the cause of socialism with Chinese characteristics," he adds.

"That's a historical policy decision and a historical contribution," he says.

He also notes that the new CPC central leadership will firmly carry out the development objectives outlined in Jiang Zemin's report to the 16th CPC National Congress.

"These objectives reflect the will of the entire Party and represent the aspiration of people of all ethnic groups in China," he says, "They are the political declaration and action guide for our Party in the new development stage of the new century."
