China committed to neighborly relations

    Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing says China is committed to friendly relations with neighbors - Indonesia, the Republic of Korea, Malaysia and Thailand. Li met his counterparts from the four countries on the sidelines of the Asia-Europe Meeting of foreign ministers, which opens Thursday on the Indonesian island of Bali. The foreign ministers also discussed the Pyongyang nuclear issue.

    China's relations with its four neighbors were the focus of talks between Chinese foreign minister Li Zhaoxing and his counterparts from Indonesia, the Republic of Korea, Malaysia and Thailand.

    Li Zhaoxing said China's new leadership sees its neighbors as good friends and hopes to further develop relations. He said China also hopes to increase contact with the four countries in dealing with regional and world affairs.

    The foreign ministers also discussed Pyongyang's nuclear issues. Li Zhaoxing said China wants to see a nuclear-free and prosperous Korean Peninsula. He said dialogue was the only right way to resolve problems in the region. The foreign ministers from the four countries praised China's efforts in seeking a peaceful resolution to the issue.

    The two-day Asia-Europe Meeting of foreign ministers brings together officials from 10 Asian nations and the 15 member countries of the European Union.
