Chief Executive of Hong Kong SAR Tung Chee Hwa has called on business circles to seize opportunities brought by Hong Kong's Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement, or CEPA, with the mainland. He made the call on Friday while attending a house appliances show in the SAR.
Tung Chee Hwa says the CEPA offers the Hong Kong a new stimulus for economic growth. He said the SAR and the mainland were expected to reach a deal by September on 275 tariff-free products imported from the Hong Kong SAR to the mainland.
Tung said the SAR government would offer support to mainland enterprises for their entry into the Hong Kong market. He added that Hong Kong banks would also be authorized to operate Renminbi businesses. He added that the SAR government is also considering proposals to expand shares of Hong Kong companies in the Chinese mainland insurance business.
