| China urges Japan to adhere to defense－only policy |

In response to the Japanese parliament's decision to send Self－Defense Forces to Iraq, China's Foreign Ministry has said that Japan's adherence to a defense－only policy conforms with its own interests. Foreign Ministry spokesman, Kong Quan, made the remarks on Saturday.
Kong also urged Japan to earnestly adhere to the defense－only policy and the path of peaceful development, saying it was conducive to maintaining peace and stability in the region and throughout the world.
