Visiting Russian Federation Council Chairman, Sergey Mironov, met this morning with Vice－Chairman of the National People's Congress Standing Committee, Li Tieying. Mironov is in Beijing for a two－day official visit, which aims to enhance parliamentary ties between the two nations.
During the meeting, Li Tieying said he was impressed by the gradual economic development in Russia, and that he believed the country would overcome its current difficulties. He added that under the leadership of President Vladmir Putin, Russia's political situation and society are stable. He expressed the hope that the two neighbors will maintain good relations beneficial to both sides. The two nations established a "strategic partnership of cooperation" in 2001.
On Monday, the Russian parliamentary leader held talks with China's top legislator Wu Bangguo. He will meet with Chinese President Hu Jintao, and Premier Wen Jiabao later Tuesday.
