There are more than 2,000 CPC delegates attending the Congress. They represent more than 66 million CPC members nationwide, and come from all walks of life. What do they think about the congress, and how will they exercise their roles as CPC delegates during it?

CPC delegate Han Mei is heading to the opening of the Party congress in traditional Miao clothing. She's from southwest China's Yunnan Province, and she's going to Beijing for the first time as a delegate.

A grassroots party official and female representative, Han Mei comes from a small county, called Shuifu, one of the most underdeveloped parts of the province. And she wasn't the only one wearing ethnic costume.

If it seems as if the other delegates are just attending the congress as part of their routine, Han Mei feels it's a great responsibility and an honor.

Han Mei said, "I feel really honored to attend the congress. I will carefully exercise my responsibility as a CPC delegate, and try my best to reflect to the party the opinion of the my hometown CPC members and ordinary people."

Han Mei listened to General Secretary Jiang Zemin's report with the rest of the CPC delegates. She's enthusiastic about the party's major policies. Over the next few days, she will share her opinions with other delegates, and scrutinize the core meanings of Jiang Zemin's report.

"What impressed me most about the general secretary's report was that the party still puts overall development as its top priority. He also mentioned the continued support of the western development strategy, which is encouraging." Han Mei told the reporter.

Han Mei said her hometown was still far away from the party's goal of a better off "Xiaokang" society. She's now thinking of developing tourism to attract more outside investment to boost its economy.

The Party congress lasts only a week, but Han Mei's role as a CPC member is set to last the rest of her life.
