Webpage for Spring Festival Gala on CCTV.com set up,
network congestion to be eased

    CCTV staged the first rehearsal of 2003 Spring Festival Gala on Jan. 18. The interaction between the audience and the live show will be enhanced more than ever. CCTV.com sets up the first official web site (click here) for the Gala. People may also participate in the program by sending SMS messages for the first time. This service is provided by CCTV Public Consultation Co. Ltd.

    The live broadcast of 2003 Spring Festival Gala will make full use of networks, which is a powerful means of interaction and reporting. The web page is redesigned, with new columns added to meet the demands of netizens. The number of hits is expected to be more than 100 million of last year.

    “ The Spring Festival Gala is not only to be shown on the stage, but also broadcast live on the web. CCTV.com raised this idea for the first time, in an attempt to promote wider participation of people in the program, and encourage them to put forth their suggestions and opinions,” said Liu Lianxi, CEO of CCTV.com.

    This year CCTV.com have designed its first official website for the Spring Festival Gala. Latest news, sidelights, as well as stories about hosts or actors(actresses) will be released on the website. Audience may also present their valuable suggestions to the play staff of the Gala through the web, and participate in a series of activities

    During the live broadcast of the previous Spring Festival Galas, network congestion would happen when millions of people dial the number of hotlines or log in on CCTV.com simultaneously. This year, with the improvement of communication facilities, the network congestion will be greatly eased.

    

    CCTV Public Consulting Co. Ltd, which is newly founded, will provide SMS service for the Gala for the first time. People may participate in the programs, games, vote and raise opinions by sending SMS messages. CCTV terminal server port can receive 300,000 pieces of SMS messages per minute. During the 4-hour’s Gala, the SMS messages to be received may amount to 100 million in number.

    In addition, the number of hotline operators will increase to 120 from 20 previously, so that a total of 60,000 calls can be received during the four hours.
