Hot, dry weather and gusting winds have spread the worst forest fires in half-a-century across much of western Canada. British Columbia has declared a state of emergency as firefighters battle some 350 blazes.
Despite their efforts, an official says the fires are igniting so quickly that they were nearly impossible to control.
The fires are forcing some 10,000 people to be evacuated from their homes.
