Cross-Strait trade ties remain strong
   CCTV.COM   2002-11-11 11:11:15
Despite Taiwan's reluctance to establish the "Three Direct Links" of trade, transport and mail services with the mainland, cross-Strait economic ties remain strong, sound and are continuing to grow.

China and Chinese Taipei joined the World Trade Organization in 2001. The historic event has increased business opportunities for Taiwan businesspeople seeking to trade and invest in the mainland.

Currently Taiwan is the mainland's fourth biggest investor. The number of Taiwan companies on the mainland has grown steadily over the past 20 years and now some 65,000 choose to do business in the mainland. The mainland has become Taiwan's industrial outpost and serves as a powerful engine for the island's economic progress.
