China and the Republic of Korea have issued a joint statement regarding bilateral relations and international issues of mutual concern. The statement came out late Tuesday night, one day after ROK President Roh Moo-hyun started his state visit to China.
The statement says that the leaders of the two countries reviewed the development of China-ROK good neighborly friendship during the past 11 years, and announced mutual intentions to build an all-round cooperative partnership.
The two sides agree that the Korean Peninsula should be nuclear free. China holds that the security concerns of the DPRK should be taken into account, and the ROK notes that the DPRK nuclear issue should be resolved in a verifiable and irreversible way.
The two countries agreed to take active measures for the development of trade. They plan to explore new areas of cooperation, such as joint research in next generation telecommunications technology, biological projects, new materials, exploitation of natural resources, energy and transportation.
The statement also says the two sides agree to promote the newly-emerged regional cooperation process in the Asia Pacific region.
