Chinese people hail General Secretary Jiang Zemin's report

    Since the opening of the CPC National Congress on Friday, citizens all around China have been greatly encouraged by General Secretary Jiang Zemin's report. They have learned about the report through various media sources, including newspaper, television, and have been expressing their own views about the report as well as their confidence in the nation's future under the leadership of the CPC.

    Round-the-clock operation of printing machines cannot satisfy people's enthusiasm for information about the Congress. Newspapers covering the latest developments of the Congress are quickly snapped up as soon as they are put on news-stands.

    In southwest China's Chongqing city, passengers get free newspapers on the bus.

    In Beijing and Harbin, bulletin boards are set up to deliver news from the Congress. Phrases such as "Three Represents", "A Well-off Society" as well as "Creating and Pioneering" are now among the most popular sayings everywhere.

    A Beijing citizen said: "This Congress summarized our nation's achievements during the past thirteen years. I am very happy to hear that. The thought of 'Three Represents' has taken root in my heart."

    In the Hong Kong and Macao Special Administrative Regions, all television stations aired the "live" opening session of the Congress. General Secretary Jiang Zemin's report generated the citizen's applause and warm response. Newspapers such as Ta Kung Pao, the Macao Daily and others devoted their front pages to the opening session, and spoke highly of Jiang Zemin's report at the Congress.

    In factories, villages, government bodies and the armed forces, citizens have all been spending their weekend learning about and exchanging views on the report.

    Liu Shouxin, senior technician of Changchun Coach Factory said: "Our workers are particularly responsive to some points mentioned in the report, such as the new way of industrialization, relying on science and technology to rejuvenate the nation, as well as maintaining sustainable development. We are confident that we can master the sciences and cultural knowledge, as well as sophisticated technologies."

    In Beijing, Tianjin, Zhengzhou and Kunming, college students and teachers gathered to study and discuss the report.

    Cheng Tianquan, branch party secretary of Beijing Renmin University said: "I feel very encouraged by the report. It shows that our party's theory is more mature. We have a concise understanding about the changing international and domestic situations. The report presents the blueprint of our country over the next twenty or even fifty years."

    As the ongoing Party Congress is in progress, the report and other important results coming from the Congress will touch more and more people's lives. People all around the country are all confident of building a more prosperous China under the leadership of the CPC.
