New York City's Metropolitan Opera saw another superstar bid his fans farewell on Saturday night. Legendary tenor Luciano Pavarotti decided to make his final appearance at the noted venue after 43 years in the business.
For 11 minutes, 68-year-old Pavarotti soaked up the bravos after Saturday night's performance. Clearly moved by the outpouring from fans, he made numerous curtain calls, stretching out his arms and blowing kisses to the audience.
It was Pavarotti's final opera appearance in New York City's Metropolitan Opera House, the stage that made Pavarotti famous as the tenor with the big belly and super-sized smile.
Pavarotti had come a long way from his first professional performance in "La Boheme" at Reggio Emilia, Italy, on April 29, 1961.
The ovations could have gone on much longer - they stopped only because the hefty Pavarotti seemed to be having so much trouble walking on stage in front of the big gold curtain.
