Art merges with reality in historical drama

A TV drama series dating back about 360 years ago during the transitional period between the Ming and Qing dynasties is currently shooting in Beijing. Let's hear Li Chengru, the lead actor, talk about his character--a man from a formerly rich but later impoverished family.

The drama's main actors, including Li Chengru, Lei Kesheng and Liu Jinshan, were all on hand on Sunday to talk about their roles. Playing a dandy boy, lead actor Li Chengru admitted art had merged with reality to some extent.

Li Chengru said, "My character Fuqi is in me now, that's why I'm talking the way he would - things just flow out of my mouth without going through my brain. Born into an impoverished wealthy family, Fuqi is by nature a kind and honest man. He's a typical Beijing Guy - always acting big no matter how much he's lost. I really like my character - that's why I've started to become him."

Born and brought up in the capital, Li Chengru is right at home playing a Beijinger. Take a look at this scene with him and Liu Jinshan, and you'll see just how good he is at it. Filming is set to wrap up in June, and the series will be aired in October.
