With over 800 new movies made each year, you'd think India would have their own academy awards. Well, they're getting them. Indian superstar Amitabh Bachchan is in Singapore to inaugurate the awards. Let's see how it's going...
The event, which is the Bollywood version of the Oscars, is scheduled to be held on the island at the end of May. It aims to recognize and celebrate the achievements of Indian cinema.
Amitabh Bachchan, a legend in the Indian film industry, is the official ambassador for the prestigious new awards ceremony. And he says he's glad to see that better story lines and cutting-edge technology are the new characteristics of an industry once criticized for being contrived and obsessed with fantasy.
Indian Actor Amitabh Bachchan said, "I've always believed that we have the talent, obviously we don't have the funds, we're restricted because of our language..."
