Friday's agenda for the third sessions of the 10th National People's Congress (NPC) and of the 10th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) is as follows:
NPC
-- Deputies to examine the work reports of the Supreme People's Court and the Supreme People's Procuratoriate.
The 3,000 NPC deputies will break into small groups and continue to examine the performance of the Supreme People's Court and the supreme procuratorate over the past year. Heads of the two organs delivered their work reports on Wednesday to the NPC for examination by the law-making body. The reports are subject on an approval vote by lawmakers at the end of the NPC session on Monday. Besides the two reports, the legislators will continue to look at the draft anti-secession law. NPC standing committee Vice-Chairman Wang Zhaoguo explained some key articles of the draft to the congress on Tuesday and the NPC standing committee has made certain revisions to the draft based on the opinions of the lawmakers. The revised draft will be put to vote by the NPC deputies at the end of the session and today the deputies are expected to look at the revised version during group deliberations.
CPPCC
-- Members to hold panel discussions;
-- The ninth session of the Standing Committee of the 10th CPPCC National Committee to hold the second plenum.
The CPPCC members will break into small groups and discuss the performance of the political advisory body, in other words, how the body will improve its work this year and make it more effective. In the afternoon, the standing committee of the CPPCC will have another plenary meeting. As we know, the CPPCC will wrap up its ten-day long annual session tomorrow afternoon, two days ahead of the NPC session, and so today the members of the advisory body are finalizing their work during the session. Over the 10-day period, the advisors deliberated over the report of the CPPCC during the past year and reviewed how their proposals and suggestions to the various government departments have been revised. They also examined the government work report, reports by the supreme people's court and people's procuratorate and of course the draft anti-secession law. For all these documents, the advisors voiced their opinions and these opinions are expected to be heard by the country's decision-makers through the relevant channels.
