By means of television, radio and newspaper, the news of the opening of the 16th National Congress of the Communist Party of China has swept all over the country at lightning speed. People of the various provinces, autonomous regions, municipalities and different ethnic groups are celebrating in their own ways and wearing festive attire in honor of the occasion.

In Wuhan city of central China's Hubei Province, Party members and citizens gathered in the square to celebrate. During the 10,000-voice chorus of "Without the Communist Party There Would be no New China", a 100 meter-long party flag was unfolded by the audience. Veteran Party members got into the spirit with many entertaining performances such as the traditional Kuaiban (rhythmic comic talk) and also expressed their enthusiasm on camera.

"I listened to General Secretary Jiang's speech on TV. As an old Party member, I felt very excited. During the past decade, each CPC National Congress has brought new changes and remarkable developments. Now with the "Three Represents" thought to guide us, our life will get better and better," said Zhu Xianke, a veteran CPC member.

In southwest China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, the singers of the Zhuang, Yao, Miao and Dong ethnic groups expressed their happiness through folk songs.

The festive atmosphere was also felt in east China's metropolis Shanghai. When darkness fell, 20 huge projectors focused on the glass wall of the 400-meter-high Jinmao Tower. The four Chinese characters meaning "Celebrate the CPC 16th National Congress" attracted many locals.

In the northern ice city Harbin, on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, in southwest ethnic homes, and on the broad Inner Mongolian grassland, the Chinese danced and sang to cheer for the Party's Congress, and to give their best wishes to the country.
