General Secretary Jiang Zemin's report has received an enthusiastic response from the more than 2,000 delegates attending the ongoing Party Congress. They believe the report clearly maps out the future direction for the party and the country as a whole. Jiang's over one-and-a-half-hour long report received a lengthy applause from the delegates. The report, looking back at the past and forward to the future, was widely welcomed.

Party Delegate from Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Yuan Fenglan "The report is comprehensive and profound. It summarizes the party work over the past five years as well as experience learned over past decades. In this period, China has undergone fast economic growth and maintained stability. I feel very proud and inspired."

For others, the report is enlightening and indicates the road ahead. Party delegate from Heilongjiang Province, Zhu Wenqing "I am from the countryside of Heilongjiang province. I am very delighted to hear that the report puts the increase of farmers' incomes as a priority in building a well-off society in an all-round way. To strengthen the position of the agricultural sector and speed up agricultural industrialization and urbanization are all our guidelines to achieving overall prosperity." Party delegate from Zhejiang Province, Shi Jiuwu said, "I am from Taizhou city in Zhejiang Province, where private business is thriving and where share-holding systems originated. The report has again pointed out that it is essential to support and encourage the development of non-public sectors. This has further clarified our development direction."

Party building is another issue of interest to the delegates. They believe it serves as the foundation for the country's overall development. The delegates will also hold group discussions on the report and vote on it at the end of the seven-day congress.

The delegates are the backbones from all levels and many hold leading positions. Their understanding of party policies and principles will be demonstrated by their actions and it is up to them to achieve the Party's goals.
