Relay
Each of the four athletes in the team must cover the entire race distance before interchanging with their teammate and must complete two shooting series of five targets each: first prone, then standing.
In addition to their loaded five shots the athletes have another three in reserve, which have to be loaded individually for safety reasons. After the first shooting session the athletes line up at the shooting range on the basis of their position in the race, the first in lane one and so on. If, despite the three reserve shots, they fail to hit all the targets, they must ski as many penalty loops as the targets they have missed.
Mass start
The top 30 athletes qualify for this event: this means all those who have won a medal in the individual, sprint and pursuit events, plus the leader and the top rankers in the World Cup competition, until all places have been filled.
Men must complete 5 circuits of 3 km for a total of 15 km, and women must complete 5 circuits of 2.5 km for a total of 12.5 km. A series of five shots must be completed after each circuit, the first two prone, the last two standing. A penalty loop must be completed for each target missed.
