With a station located around the National Art Museum of China (NAMC) planned as the endpoint of the southern section of its second phase project, Beijing Subway Line 8 will continue its extension to Wufutang in Daxing District. Beijing Municipal Commission of Urban Planning replied to a member of Beijing Municipal Committee of the CPPCC in regards to the section between the NAMC and Qianmen, the most complex section of Line 8, claiming there are now two schemes for comparison and selection, one passing through Wangfujing Street and the other through Tiananmen East.

Line 8 will extend to Wufutang in the long run
In reply to a proposal by Guo Binglian, a member of Beijing Municipal Commission of the CPPCC, Beijing Municipal Commission of Urban Planning explained that Line 8 will be constructed in three phases. The first phase project is the Olympic Sub-line; the second phase project under construction now includes sections between Huilongguan and the Forest Park and between Xiongmaohuandao and NAMC East Street. Construction will begin for the third phase project between NAMC East Street and Wufutang according to the long-term plan. Of the sections mentioned above, the one between NAMC Station and Qianmen is complex, in light of problems such as underground development in the Wangfujing area and cultural relic preservation on the outskirts of the Imperial Palace.
