Protection of intellectual property rights is key for Hong Kong's growth. This city is home to many of the world's biggest corporations. One man established and leads Hong Kong's intellectual property rights protection department – Stephen Selby.
Selby has worked for the Hong Kong government since 1978.
"I think I had built up a confidence that there should be no problem for foreigners to stay in HK after 1997. The dates of 1997 and the changes we made gave us an opportunity to bring up to date a lot of laws, particularly copyright and digital media. Also Hong Kong has to maintain a very competitive position in world trade," said Stephen Selby.
Selby has written about the preservation of Chinese history and culture and he has become an expert at one ancient Chinese sport – archery.
"I've been studying Chinese archery now for about 15 years. I was aware from my studies as a student that archery was important in China, but only when I started a special study of my own. It was only at that time that I realized it was an emormous influence on Chinese culture and that traditionally China had a lot of respect for archery. I could almost say it was the Chinese national sport, " said Stephen Selby.
