Changing from a substitute to a formal member
Zhang Rundong, has never been in the army and knows nothing about goose-stepping. When the group was first formed, the trainers worried about his performance: he has splay feet and he held his head awry, hunched his shoulders and tilted his hips. He usually made similar mistakes after the trainers had corrected them repeatedly. The trainers had to make him a substitute member.
Zhang Rundong is very stubborn. Gritting his teeth, he began to challenge his physical and psychological limits. During the training, his clothes are never dry. Every night, he practices goose-steps in the dim light of the rest room. During break time, he learns from those who are good at goose-stepping. No pain, no gain. Later, Zhang Rundong received good grades on his examinations.
Train the "think tank" in a scientific way
Zhang Zhengyu, a national defense student who has just joined the CPC said: "we will not only demonstrate our hardship endurance, but also display our teamwork and innovation in the parade."
He and his classmates have developed gadgets such as an "arm fixer for goose-step training," a "wrist adjustment device" and some other training equipment. In addition, they also have innovated line stretchers, parade cars as well as other things.
As the military parade approaches, in order to avoid nervousness, the national defense students now read about psychology. During break time, they attend a cooperation-enhancing psychological behavioral training session around the theme of "letting us walk in sync and advance side by side," in a bid to strengthen their self-confidence. In order to give full attention to the role of psychology, national defense students ask parade attendees to tell themselves:"I can perform well in the parade if I perform well in training," and "it is an honor to take part in the parade and I can do better."
Due to their outstanding performance in the training, national defense students are called a think tank. Many of them now wear chest cards marked with "training model," "military gesture model" and "goose-step model," indicating their excellent contribution.
