According to the statistics from the Beijing Steering Group for Holiday Work and the Beijing Bureau of Tourism, the celebration activities in Tiananmen Square as well as the various kinds of garden and park activities were the most popular activities on the 2009 National Day. Beijing organized a huge National Day garden activity themed "Music from Ten Directions, Show of a Hundred Gardens, Colors from a Thousand Gardens," and the 203 major scenic spots in Beijing received a total of over 9.5 million visitors.
Besides, the music dance epic "The Road to Revival" and the themed exhibition "The Road to Revival," the Bird's Nest edition of "Turandot," the "Art Tour of the Autumn" in the National Grand Theater, the National Day golden week performances in the Beijing Concert Hall, as well as other activities, also enriched the Beijing's holiday tourism market.
Reporters learned that since there were so many visitors in Beijing from other places and at the same time, residents of Beijing also had strong desire to leave, the Beijing Bureau of Tourism launched a tourism activity themed "touring the surrounding regions of Beijing and appreciating the beautiful sceneries of golden autumn" to actively guide the residents of Beijing on a tour in the suburban areas and surrounding cities of Beijing.
Just before National Day, the Beijing Bureau of Tourism cooperated with the tourism departments of the surrounding cities and provinces of Beijing, including Tianjin, Hebei, Shandong, Liaoning, Shanxi, Henan and Shaanxi through the regional tourism cooperative platform, and provided a lot of convenience and tourism products to the residents of Beijing. According to statistics, during the National Day golden week of 2009, the amount of the tourists from North China to Beijing increased by 7 percent and as the Beijing-Chengde Expressway has fully opened to traffic, the tourists going from Beijing to Chengde increased by over 30 percent year-on-year.
