2009-11-02 16:19 BJT

"Within a week, about 15 youth have come to the hospital to receive a tattoo-removing operation. They all hope that they will be able to join the army after the operation."Yang said that the youth who came to receive the operation were all between 18 and 22 years old.

"After we asked them, we learned that they were all between 13 and 16 years old when they got the tattoos." Yang said that through the operation and laser therapy, the probability of successfully getting rid of the tattoo is about 70 percent."Nearly all the colorful and large tattoos cannot be successfully healed and will leave large scars on the body." The therapy period of laser burning will last one or two years, and the scar will be burned by laser for many times in order to get an ideal result. "The pain will be difficult for most people to bear."

Yang said that the ink and cinnabar that are used to tattoo people may lead to infection and festering, make the wound unable to heal, leave scars or even lead to skin cancer. Besides, people with tattoos are not allowed to be public servants, teachers or work in public institutions. Yang reminds the youth that they had better think twice before deciding whether or not to get a tattoo.

Article 10 of the "Standards for Physical Examination of Conscription": the large-area leucoderma, scar, melanocytic nevus, pigmentation and angioma that will affect the appearance of the army, tattoos with a diameter of over 2cm inscribed on the parts of body which will be exposed while wearing short clothes, the tattoos with a diameter of over 3cm inscribed on the other parts of the body or obvious tattoo scars that will affect the appearance of the army, are all unqualified. The traditional tattoos of minority peoples that will not obviously affect the appearance of the army are qualified.
