What is a "madou?" In fact, the word "madou" derives from the word "model." Since real models are stars and being a model is considered a "high-level" job, people who have not received any special training but have the makings of being a model are called "madous" on the Internet, which sounds more grass-roots and friendly.

There are many more people seeking "madou" jobs than there are jobs available.
After the Spring Festival, a lot of news about "highly-paid madous" frequently appeared on the front pages of many websites and newspapers, with headlines such as "The income of part-time madous' exceeds that of white-collar workers'" and "development of online shopping pushes madous' monthly salary above 20,000 yuan." Tempted by the news, a lot of beautiful girls and handsome boys rushed to apply for "madou" jobs on the Internet, dreaming to become rich.
Do part-time "madous" really have such high salaries? After a series of heart-breaking job hunting experiences, Xu Ting, a student studying at a well-known university in Wuhan, said on March 2 frankly that the so-called "highly-paid madou" news was nothing but beautiful lies made up by websites and the media for their own reasons.
Xu said that relying on her good appearance and character, she had done well in some beauty contests, and therefore, she thought that she would be more confident than other people as a part-time "madou." In order to seize the opportunity that old clothes are being replaced with new ones after the Spring Festival, Xu returned to her university ahead of time and began to look for a "madou" job. After she looked at various "madou" websites, she found that there was a lot of information about "madou" job hunters, but there was hardly any information about the employers. After an arduous search, Xu finally found an online store saying it wanted a "madou," and the owner promised to interview her. But when Xu met the "boss" of the store, she nearly passed out. The "boss" was a childish middle school student. And what the "boss" wanted was not to recruit Xu as a "madou" but to sell her a new style of clothes and have her be the first customer of the student's newly-opened online store.
After being deceived, Xu went to a university to look for a "madou." The local media once reported that this "madou" earned 20,000 yuan a month. However, the university said it didn’t have such a student.
