Centre Stage is an entertainment, magazine show, broadcast daily. The half hour program is a stage for the colorful Chinese performing art, such as song and dance, opera, music and folk art. It is both entertaining and full of information. It is a great treat both to the eye and to the ear.
Ms. Song Dongmeng, television program director and producer of Center
Stage of CCTV's channel 9, the sole English channel in China, was born
in November 1958 and graduated from the Foreign Language College of
the Northeast Normal University in 1983 before she was assigned to work
there. She completed her MA degree in the Center for Mass
Communication of Leicester University in England in 1989. She was
awarded the title of Chief Editor at CCTV in 1997.
During her nearly 20 years of experience at CCTV, Ms. Song Dongmeng
has received many awards, some of which are: the TV documentary, "The
Women's Professional High School of Dalian," which received third
prize in 1986 in the National Excellent Television Programs for Foreign
Publicity (later known as the Rainbow Award); the TV documentary,
"The Oilfield in Liaohe Region," which received second provincial prize
in Liaoning Province; the TV column "China Discovery," which won the
prize of excellence in the National TV Program Contest for Foreign
Publicity in 1995. Her show, Centre Stage, was awarded best TV column
of CCTV in 1997 and 1998.
