EU President Voices Support for US Action |

EU President Guy Verhofstadt met US President George W. Bush in Washington on Thursday. He said the European Union wanted to participate in US actions against terrorism and he offered President Bush their help.
Verhofstadt said that the EU members had agreed that retaliation for September 11 terrorist attacks was legitimate. He voiced the European Union's determination to join the US campaign.
Guy Verhofstadt, EU President & Belgium PM,said: "We find, with the European Union, that an action of the United States, based on the resolution 1368, is legitimate, that we want to participate in this action and that we want that these actions be on target, that they are focused."
The EU President also asked the US administration to produce a list of possible tasks that could be done by the 28 European states willing to get involved in US action.
Guy Verhofstadt said: "And it could be big tasks, small tasks, but I think that everything is important in this fight against terrorism."
Verhofstadt said he and the visiting European Commission President, Romano Prodi, also presented an European action plan against terrorism to President Bush. The plan was drawn up by EU leaders at an emergency summit last week.
