US Forces Continue to Build Up in Gulf
SUN, SEP 23, 2001
The United States continues to build up its military might in the Gulf region ahead of a looming assault against the Taliban authorities in Afghanistan. More troops and planes, including eight B-52 bombers, have arrived at US military bases in the region.

At the center for US forces in Bahrain, security was tight as the military gears up for expected deployment orders.

More combat and transport planes with soldiers and equipment, as well as Seahawk helicopters, are arriving at the Juffair naval base.

This base in the Bahrain capital of Manama supports the US Navy's fifth fleet, and is one of the most important US military installations in the Gulf region. The area is strictly guarded by soldiers with machine guns patrolling in armoured vehicles.

But in civilian areas of the emirate, Bahraini's are expressing concern that the United States should be absolutely sure about the terrorists before taking any military action.
