As the US works on gaining support for a military response to Tuesday's terror attacks, Pakistan said on Saturday that it would comply with United Nations Security Council resolutions to combat terrorism.
Pakistani Foreign Minister Abdul Sattar made the announcement, adding that he did not expect his country to take part in military operations outside its borders. He said that he would be discussing the matter with the government of Afghanistan "in order to clarify the situation." The Afghan Embassy in Islamabad warned of dangerous repercussions should Pakistan, or any neighboring country, give "a positive response to American demand for military bases." The US has sought permission from Pakistan for military overflights and a closing of its border with Afghanistan. Saudi militant Osama bin Ladin, who is in hiding in Afghanistan, is a prime suspect in the attacks.
