Spanish Prime Minister Jose MariaAznar said the U.S.-led military attacks against the Taliban in Afghanistan, which were launched late Sunday, are "use of legitimate defense."
In an official statement released shortly after the cabinet emergent meeting on Sunday to analyze the U.S. military strikes on Afghanistan, Aznar conveyed a message of "calmness and confidence"to the Spanish people, saying he was convinced that the fight against terrorism will culminate in success.
The Spanish executive chief, standing firm with the anti-terrorist stream, said the campaign against terrorism must be carried out with courage and determination.
"Any terror action can't get no response," Aznar stressed.
Spanish Foreign Minister Josep Pique and Defense Minister Federico Trillo contacted their respective British counterparts simultaneously to express their support for the military operations against Afghanistan.
