An Afghan opposition military leader hailed the Sunday's strike against the ruling Taliban regime by the U.S., saying such attacks will produce positive results for the anti-Taliban Northern Alliance forces.
General Mostafa Kazemi, a commander of the alliance forces, made the remarks at a base in Iran's northeastern city of Mashhad, Iran's official IRNA news agency reported.
He said that the attacks will reduce the Taliban's pressure on the Afghan people and clear the way for the Northern Alliance to push ahead its forces in the Afghan territories.
Afghanistan's moderate opposition Northern Alliance under the ousted President Burhanuddin Rabbani has been fighting with the Taliban, which seized power in 1996 and controls some 95 percent ofthe country.
The United States has accused the Taliban of harboring Saudi-born Osama bin Laden, the prime suspect of the September 11 terrorist strikes on New York and Washington.
