British Prime Minister Tony Blair said that British missile-firing submarines were taking part in operations against Afghanistan. Blair said the British submarines had joined in a US-led attack on Afghanistan's ruling Taliban military facilities and forces in the country at the request of Washington. He added British warplanes would join the attack in the next few days.
Blair said the military action had become unavoidable after the Taliban rejected demands to surrender Osama bin Laden and his supporters. He said that the Taliban had chosen to side with the terror groups. The prime minister said there were three fronts in the whole operation, involving the military, diplomatic efforts and humanitarian aid.
Britain has at least two submarines in the Persian Gulf area armed with Tomahawk cruise missiles.
