US Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld said today that B-2 Stealth Bombers flew from continental America on missions over Afghanistan. These planes are capable of non-stop, round-trip bombing missions, which they carried out during the NATO air war against Yugoslavia. Other aircraft involved in the attacks were B-1 Lancers, B-52s and F-16s. Rumsfeld also said that Tomahawk cruise missiles were used by the United States military in Sunday's attacks on Afghanistan. The one-million US dollar missiles were unleashed on targets including Taliban air defence and command sites around the capital of Kabul, and an airbase near Kandahar in southern Afghanistan. The missile attacks are aimed at paving the way for additional raids by smaller fighter jets with laser-guided bombs.
