Indonesia's former president Abdurrahman Wahid Monday condemned the United States-led military action against Afghanistan, describing it as an intervention in the internal affairs of that country.
Talking to reporters in Jakarta, Wahid said that if Afghanistan was found guilty, the military action should carried out by multinational troops.
The former president stressed that he also condemned any terrorist actions, but he did not agree with some Muslim organizations here to launch jihad (holy war) against the U.S.
"This is not a conflict between religions," he was quoted by the Antara News Agency as saying.
Several Muslim organizations here vowed to declare a jihad against the U.S. Hundreds of Indonesians have signed up to be sent to Afghanistan as jihad fighters.
