U.S. President George W. Bush said on Thursday night that the on-going air raids on the targets of the Taliban and Osama bin Laden's Al-Qaeda are being carried out according to plan and have "accomplished a great deal.
Speaking at a prime time press conference, Bush said the anti- terrorist war will be "a long war" and it may last one or two years because it is not a "conventional" war.
Bush said that he did not know bin Laden, Washington's prime suspect behind the September 11 terrorist attacks, is "dead or alive" after four days of intensive and extensive air strikes by the U.S.-led forces.
Although he indicated that the war is not particularly targeted on bin Laden, Bush said that bin Laden is "the worst" on the list of 22 terrorists the United States is trying to track down and bring to justice.
"We will smoke him out of" his caves and bring him to justice, Bush said.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation is following every lead to track down Al-Qaeda members in the United States and every possible step is taken to protect the country from further terrorist attacks, Bush said.
He said that the United States will reconsider what it is doing if the Taliban hand over bin Laden.
