South Korea has refused entry by a Pakistani designated as a terrorism suspect by Washington, police said Sunday.
The Pakistani named Akbar Shakel, 20, was delivered by police to officials from the U.S. embassy in Seoul and the South Korea National Intelligence Service after his arrival at the Incheon International Airport from Vancouver, Canada, Friday night.
The suspect was forced to leave South Korea on a Korean Air plane bound for Hong Kong at 7:20 p.m. Saturday despite his charges related to terrorism were not found, said a police spokesman.
In addition, the South Korean Ministry of Health and Welfare Sunday established a task force to deal with possible bio-chemical terrorist acts using anthrax bacteria and other bacteria-related diseases.
Although there have been no reports on patients infected by anthrax bacteria unlike in the United States, South Korea cannot rule out the possibility of bio-chemical terrorist attacks as Seoul supports the U.S.-led attacks on Afghanistan's Taliban, said a ministry spokesman.
All hospitals and medical agencies across the country have to report immediately to the ministry cases who seem to be infected by the bacterially caused diseases, said spokesman.
