The Afghan Taliban on Monday denied reports that Foreign Minister Wakil Ahmed Mutawakel had left Afghanistan, the Afghan Islamic Press (AIP) quoted a spokesman for Taliban supreme leader Mullah Omar as saying.
The AIP report said that reports about Mutawakel's defection were "baseless, concocted and sheer lies." It also said Omar had survived U.S. air strikes so far.
Mutawakel is continuing with his duties in Kandahar, the Taliban headquarters, the report said.
Meanwhile, reports from the Afghan capital of Kabul said on Monday that three large explosions, believed to be caused by cruise missiles, erupted at Kabul airport in the eastern part of the city.
There were no immediate reports of casualties and damage.
