Pakistanis Protest U.S. Strikes on Afghanistan
TUE, OCT 16, 2001
Protests continued across Pakistan against the U.S.-led strikes on military targets in Afghanistan. Angry protesters rallied in Quetta, Peshawar and Karachi. Several demonstrators were arrested.

Most shops in Quetta were closed on Monday following a strike call by the country's biggest Islamist party. The party's supporters chanted anti-U.S. and pro-Taliban slogans as they marched to a stadium to hear an address by the party's secretary.

Several hundred protesters also gathered in Peshawar. In Karachi, police fired teargas to disperse stone-throwing demonstrators. Later, protesters set fire to a number of buildings, including a railway station. Police arrested several demonstrators.
