In Afghanistan, US warplanes raided southeast Kabul this morning, dropping about six large bombs following three explosions in the city caused by a pre-dawn US strikes.
During daylight air attacks in Kandahar, four people were killed and eight others injured. In a related development, Pentagon acknowledged that the strike on a Red Cross compound on Tuesday was a mistake.
The compound was a warehouse belonging to the International Committee of the Red Cross. According to witnesses, bombs were dropped from a high firepower gunship, which injured one person and destroyed humanitarian supplies in the building.
The jet is typically used to support ground forces trained for small-unit operations. Taliban anti-aircraft fire was minimal, suggesting that most of the Taliban air defences have been wiped out by US-led strikes.
