Pakistan announced that it has put its forces on high alert in response to India's relocation of some "air assets". Tensions between the two countries have escalated as one Pakistan civilian was killed during a clash early this week.
At a news conference on Wednesday, spokesman Major-General Rashid Qureshi accused India of moving troops, which he considered "a threat" to Pakistan. He said that its armed forces were well aware of the situation and was ready to thwart any aggression by India.
The heightened tensions over the disputed territory of Kashmir continue even after US Secretary of State Colin Powell visited both countries, appealing for peace talks.
Meanwhile, Pakistan has denied reports that the Taliban Foreign Minister Wakil Ahmed Muttawakil had defected and fled to India.
