Part of a ground-to-air missile system has been deployed near the nuclear re-processing plant in La Haugue, northern France against the threat of possible suicide plane crash, French Defense Ministry announced Friday.
Only radars of the Crotale system have been put into place to reinforce low altitude surveillance, said Alain Raevel, deputy spokesman for the ministry.
On Thursday, the ministry said missile batteries were not yet installed around the plant but they could be done "in the coming days."
Earlier Defense Minister Alain Richard said protection zones relying on the fast interception of attack aircraft would be set up around "nuclear plants ...major dams, large industrial installations and our greater urban areas."
