Taliban Detains Japanese Man
WED, OCT 24, 2001
The Taliban's embassy in Islamabad said Taliban has detained a Japanese man for illegally entering Afghanistan.

The Taliban embassy officials said intelligence agents in Afghanistan were still investigating the unidentified Japanese man, but Japanese Foreign Minister Makiko Tanaka said on Tuesday that the government had no accurate information about him. She said the Japanese embassy in Islamabad was still in contact with its Taliban counterpart to verify the facts.

The Taliban has detained two foreign journalists since the terrorist attacks in the United States. A British journalist was released after 10 days and a French editor still awaits trial on spy charges.
