The Pentagon admitted on Friday that U.S warplanes "inadvertently" bombed warehouses used by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in the Afghan capital of Kabul and a residential area near them.
Two U.S. Navy planes each dropped one 2,000-pound (900 kg) bombon the warehouses on Thursday evening, the U.S. Central Command said in a statement.
And a 500-pound (220 kg) bomb "inadvertently" hit a residential area about 700 feet (230 meters) south of the warehouses, apparently because its guidance system malfunctioned, the command said.
It was the second time since the U.S.-led bombing campaign against Afghanistan began on October 7 that U.S. warplanes mistakenly bombed ICRC warehouses in Kabul.
