| Spain commemorates Sept. 11 terror attacks |

Madrid Mayor Jose Alvarez presided over a ceremony at the Colon Square on Wednesday to pay tribute to the victims of Sept. 11 terror attacks on New York and Washington.
The ceremony, organized by the Madrid city council, was attended by many citizens and US Ambassador George Argyros.
At 1:00 p.m. local time (1100 GMT), the ceremony began with the hoisting of the flag of the United States.
Argyros said the tribute was also in remembrance of the Spaniards who have died as a result of terrorist attacks. "The people of Spain know too well that terrorism is not just a problem of the United States."
