Carine Seror, marketing manager of WWF China, said, "We do not have a specific expectation by figure because this is the first time we are running such a competition in China. But given the tips that we have given to the families in order to reduce their usage of water and usage of energy, we maybe assume that each family every month can save one ton of water and maybe 10 kilowatts of electricity. "
Currently in China, the residential energy consumption volume has doubled compared to that of a decade ago. Organisers say through such a competition, residents can learn that the potential for saving energy is great.
National statistics authorities conducted a survey recently among 1,000 local families. They determined that high income families consume 40 percent more water and 80 percent more electricity than low income ones. In terms of age, younger families under 35 years old consume more water and electricity than older families. 94 percent of all families agree that the potential for saving is huge.
