Prof. Zhang Xu from Tongji University said, "It's for sure that the growing income and improving living conditions will lead to rising residential energy consumption. According to research from home and abroad, household energy consumption volume will continue to hike up until the average GDP per capita hits 15 thousand US dollars a year, while currently in Shanghai, the GDP per capita is 7 thousand dollars."
Despite the inevitable rising trend, experts say residential energy consumption volume in China is still low, about a quarter of the amount in the United States. But they add that the margin is always there for energy saving. Under the current circumstances, availabe choices include renovating buildings into energy saving ones and promoting energy efficient technologies.
