The fireman realized his mother was almost certainly buried and his father was missing. He was told to be prepared for the worst.
In the next two days, continuous media coverage of rescues kept Hu Shunyang's hopes alive. He realized that strong willpower and speedy rescue meant miracles could happen. And he hoped a miracle would happen for his mom.
Hu Shunyang said, "I thought my mom might be buried on the first floor and there might be water and instant noodles near her. If she was strong, she could live. I prayed I could go and rescue her."
His prayers were heard. On May 15th, three days after the quake, Hu Shunyang's team was dispatched to the quake zone for rescue work. And their destination was Beichuan County, his home.
