But instead of going to his hometown, Hu's team was dispatched to a remote county, a dozen kilometers away. As the only one trained in rescue work in his team, Hu refused the offer of a quick look at his home.

He moved on with the rest of his team, telling reporters that everyone should have a chance to survive and many people in need of help were waiting for them.

Both of Hu Shunyang's parents are still listed as missing.
