The President also went to remote villages. Some of the buildings here were constructed by villagers themselves. Hu Jintao was concerned about the indoor temperature, electricity supplies, and fire safety. He said these homes are only temporary shelters for now, and with the help of the local government, he hopes the villagers will move into new homes soon.

Hu Jintao also inspected a construction site in Mian Zhu. He listened to construction plans, and details about progress with the projects, financial aid and logistics. The President was particularly worried about potential price fluctuations of construction materials. He said government officials and relief workers must stabilize prices, while still ensuring the quality of the materials.

Hu Jintao also met a convoy of military trucks carrying relief goods on the way to the town of Ying Xiu. He asked them to stop, so he could look at the bricks the trucks were transporting. The president talked to the soldiers about their work.

Chinese president Hu Jintao said, "Since the earthquake, you have worked continuously without much rest regardless of any hardship. You've contributed to the relief and reconstruction works. You transported construction materials for people in the quake-hit regions. I hope you can overcome difficulties and achieve success in your tasks. "
