Chongsaikang: the oldest market in Lhasa

As the party secretary of Chongsaikang neighborhood, he has worked at the market for nearly 50 years. He is familiar with every merchant here and tries to solve their problems.

Gangzu, the party secretary of Chongsaikang, said, "I was born and grow up here. Chongsaikang is a big family made up of many ethnic groups. I have served the merchants at this market for more than 40 years. We always help each other and have become good friends."

In the eyes of the various merchants from around the country, Party secretary Gangzu plays the role of housekeeper. He coordinates the arrangement of the stalls, and also translates for the businessmen. But Gangzu believes that so many different ethnic groups doing business here have contributed to the prosperity of the market.

The septuagenarian has witnessed half a century of development in the city. He says he cannot leave the friends he's known for years.

Today, the structure of giving aid to Tibet has been put in place nationwide. This is a place where aid in Tibet continues to grow.

Many cities in modern day Tibet have a lot of squares, streets and buildings named after those who have helped build them. Over the past half century, groups of people have come to this plateau to help with local construction. The locals say they have already become part of them.
