The region's GDP has grown more than 800 times from 1947 to over 61 billion US dollars in 2006. Inner Mongolia's economy has grown at a rate of over 16 percent a year in the past five years. It is the fastest growth across the country. And residents have seen their incomes increase.

Historians attribute these achievements to the adoption and successful implementation of the regional ethnic autonomy system.
